RadioBeats

What to write? RadioBeats was born one day in the late Summer holidays of 09.

The journey began in '07 with the oh so cliche beginning of piczo. I started up as it was a bit of a fad when I was in Year 7. I had a few piczo sites on which I 'experimented' on. My first proper site was a My Chemical Romance fansite. It was one of the first sites to ever be featured in the newly created fansite section. I think an early success and popularity were important factors that made me want to actually 'stick it out' properly to learn and meet new people etc.

From there I made a graphics site on piczo which was pretty crap and I didn't really update because I was a bit bored to be honest. However, I did learn how to code layouts with that site and eventually could and did make the move to freewebs. I'd tried to make the move a couple of months before then with my fansite and to be honest, once I'd put in the code to put an image on and position it in the middle, I honestly had no clue what to do. This time however, I moved my graphics site and just put up the good content, which was bare minimum. I blogged a couple of times then went on holiday for a week to Italy. After that I didn't return and it just lay dead for a year.

These summer holidays though, I was getting back into graphics design with a far more decent programme even though Roxio wasn't freeware. Over those 7 weeks (we had seven that year!) the idea was lying in the back of my head about creating a new site and starting afresh. Eventually I decided to go for it and spent one late morning sitting up on the computer and deciding on a name.

The Name

Well, one of the reasons behind doing a new site was that my old name was rather long (thunder-and-lightning if you must know), and I really wanted something short and catchy and with a story behind it. Thunder and lightning had been a spur of the moment decision, so this time I sat down with a pencil and paper and listed a couple of names. Looking back now, I'm glad I chose radiobeats because it was probably the best one there. I'd chosen it because at the time I'd been listening to California by Metro Station repeatedly. It's such a Summer song and there was a particular line that I absolutely adored to bits, 'while the radio collides to the sound of our heartbeats'. I also adore music, end of, so it was a clever piece of inspiration. I really combined the words together. At first I was stuck between stereobeats and radiobeats but then I think stereo was taken, plus I normally say radio. The 'beats' bit at the end has two meanings. There is beats in the literal sense, like the thumping beats of a dance song beating out the speakers, and the heartbeat, which expresses love. It's kind of corny, but I think I like having two meanings to it. It's more personal.
